ACLU Reports on Children Detained at Hutto

This two-minute Freedom Files video short provides a shocking glimpse into conditions at a Texas facility to detain immigrants run by the Department of Homeland Security. Of the approximately 400 detainees at the Hutto Detention Facility, many are children who belong to refugee families seeking political asylum in the U.S. after escaping persecution in their country of origin.

This is way beyond disgusting, locking up children because their parents are refugees or immigrants. Some of the children detained at these 'homeland security' camps are American citizens, whose parents may not be legal residents.

I really wish all the immigrants to this country would go on strike starting June 1, 2007. By June 10th, the country would be at a stand-still. By July 1, all the anti-immigration folks would change their mind.

But this slow gathering up of people and then sticking them in detention camps means that they will all be afraid to do anything, and it also allows time for the federal government to accommodate the reduction in labor force. I heard they are achieving this by using prison labor.

This is so sick.

I guess the only good news here is that, so far, no one has been killed. That's not much in the way of "good news" and is likely to change.

It seemed to me that there were a large number of protests around the world this week. I decided to download the photos and present them here on my blog. The one in Turkey was the largest; the one in Norway was the one that was tear gassed. The ones in Iraq were ignored and participants brutalized. I have no pictures for the ones in the USA on May 1, 2007. There were human rights violations at some of thes, especially the one in LA.

I remember the massive protests against this war in February 2003. If only the war mongerers had listened and shown some restraint...... but they did not. And now they have blood on their hands they can never wash off.

Yeap - the US military is winning friends again! I ams sure that man will long remember the knee on his head pushing his face into the ground by a foreign troop that has no business being in his country.

This was a small protest by Iraqi standards. They make it clear, time and time again, that they want the US troops to leave their country IMMEDIATELY. And their wishes for their country have not been respected or listened to at all. bush intends to never leave Iraq for the Iraqis.

Protests This Week - Israel

Tens of thousands of people have demonstrated on the streets of Tel Aviv to call for the resignation of Ehud Olmert, Israel's prime minister.

The rally in Yitzhak Rabin Square on Thursday comes in response to Olmert's refusal to step down after criticism of his handling of Israel's war against Hezbollah last summer.

Local media said as many as 150,000 protesters were present as parents of soldiers killed in the conflict and prominent local authors, among others, spoke to the crowd.

I guess Israel had something to protest too - they felt the war last summer was not run properly. I find this more than bizarre that they want a "better" war - seems like they should be saying "no war at all "- we can find a better way to solve our problems. But they are right in that the war last summer - LIKE ALL WARS - was a failure. It killed a lot of people, mostly innocents. It destroyed property. It solved nothing. It likely sowed the seeds for the next war.

All standard outcomes for wars. When will we ever learn?

By the way, this war was also a failure for the USA, since they supplied Israel with bombs marked "made in the USA". That is truly a failure.

This time, they are protesting the Commander in Chief of the US military - a very evil man, I might add. I think it is wrong to wish death on other people, so I wish bush a long, long live in jail. That is where he belongs.

This protest in Afghanistan is about the usual subject - US military behavior. I wonder when we will ever learn to keep our troops inside the USA - so that the rest of the world does not hate us for what the military has done.

This protest is against Iran, and held in Afghanistan. It looks like there are human rights violations going on here also.

Brave of that man to try and take pictures while being tear gassed. Don't you get sick of these police who are all dressed up in helmets and batons and tear gas and all kinds of stuff - and they are only coming up against people "armed" with signs and cameras? It is pathetic.

I did not even know this was happening. I thank my fellow peace activists in Norway for demonstrating against NATO and the war on Afghanistan.
