"Not hammer-strokes, but dance of the water, sings the pebbles into perfection." — Rabindranath Tagore

Sound familiar?
If it ain't broke don't fix it. If it is broke, deny that it's broke. Once it can't be denied, try to make it work by doing even more of the things that broke it in the first place. Keep doing these things no matter what the consequences, repeatedly asserting that no other options exist. Once it can't be denied and can't be made to work again, blame it on everything under the sun other than the things that actually broke it. At this point there is nothing to be done but admit that it's broken, claim that no one could have anticipated it breaking and that no one is to blame, then assert that there is nothing we can do about it and we'll just have to continue to live with a broken situation. Keep this up until even the people who benefit from the broken system can no longer stand it. Then- debate endlessly all the merits and demerits of the various alternatives. Institute, with half measures if possible, the alternative that most resembles the original version, declare victory and go home. – Matt Rawlings
