04/18/14 STATIONS OF THE CROSS OF THE MARGINALIZED
Time is 1 PM and location is 39 Grove Street in Asheville. Good Friday--Take to the
Streets!!! Crucifixion, the death penalty of its day, was used to publically
humiliate those who crossed Rome.
It was reserved for the poor, the homeless, and those who rebelled against the Roman Empire and their occupation. Jesus the homeless man
from Nazareth
was crossed and in the process exposed the systems of domination through the
way of non-violent love. Today, people in our community continue to experience
humiliation and the daily crucifixions of poverty and homelessness. Over half
of our children are on free or reduced lunch. The average life expectancy of a
homeless person is the age of 50. Poverty is a daily grind that causes bodily
and emotional suffering. Part pilgrimage and part protest, we will walk to
places in our city weaving an ancient story with our own, opposing death, and
speaking out for liberation and life!

04/27/14 WHAT DOES SOLIDARITY LOOK LIKE?
This event is to explore and promote female solidarity
around appearance. Time is 11 AM and location is Eagle Street Coffee Emporium
at 39 S. Market St
(corner of Eagle and Market). This is caddy-corner to the backside of the big
public/Diana Wortham Theatre parking garage that's on Biltmore downtown. Late
last summer the twitter hashtag: #solidarityisforwhitewomen was created by
Mikki Kendall. “As the hashtag spread across Twitter, people from all walks of
life started joining in – to vent their own personal frustrations, as well as
to address larger political issues. Feminism as a global movement meant to
unite all women has global responsibilities, and – as illustrated by hundreds
of tweets – has failed at one of the most basic: it has not been welcoming to
all women, or even their communities.” This campaign reignited deeply important
questions in regard to race, appearance, and the level of support that we offer
to each other as women. Here in Asheville
we like to call ourselves a diverse city, we like to see ourselves as
progressive and inclusive of everyone, but are we, really? Please join us for a
facilitated discussion of these topics and bring your insight and experience.
Oh, and free coffee, y'all!

04/30/14 POWER OF POSITIVE PARENTING SEMINAR
Children of all ages need a safe, secure and loving
environment in order to thrive. Positive parenting is an effective
approach to raising children that emphasizes the positive. It involves creating
a family environment that is loving, supportive and predictable. This is
important in raising healthy, well-adjusted children who have the skills and
confidence that they need in order to succeed at school and in their
interpersonal relationships with others. Positive parenting reduces the stress
of parenting and makes it both more rewarding and more enjoyable. This seminar
will offer an overview of positive parenting techniques. Time is 10 AM to 11:30
AM and location is Mission Children’s Reuter
Outpatient Center
at 11 Vanderbilt Park Drive
in Asheville.
Contact Kate of Family Support Network of WNC for information on how to
register and possible costs. Her phone is 828-213-9787.

Car sharing is coming to Asheville!
Our friends at Asheville
City's Sustainability
Advisory Committee on Energy and the Environment and at WNC Alliance have been
working on bringing “Car Sharing” to our city, and the roll-out is approaching.
An announcement from WNCA reads: “Car sharing has many
benefits, including enabling people to go without a car and enabling people to
ride the bus, bike, or walk to work and still run errands or attend meetings
during the day that are more easily done in a car.Combined with Asheville's ART
(public bus transportation) routes, ever-growing bike lanes, sidewalks, and
greenways, car sharing should also enhance Asheville's affordability. What is
car sharing? It's a program through which members reserve and use a car for
short periods of time, paying only for the time used. There is no fee to become
a member and applications can be submitted online. Once approved, members
simply reserve a car online, enter and start the car with a code, and pay only
for the hours and miles used. If you need a car only part of a day, car sharing
is usually less expensive and easier than renting a car from a traditional car
rental company. The City will officially launch the program in April, with
three cars parked downtown and one on the campus of UNC Asheville.”
The company partner for this project is UHaul, which offered
the best fit for this city, according to folks at Asheville City's
Sustainability Advisory Committee on Energy and the Environment. More
information should be appearing in the media.
