Obama is running his nominations for the Citizens Medal. I think I might have entered too late - just an hour past the deadline - but I did nominate Bradley Manning. Here is what I said about him:
Bradley Manning is a hero in my eyes because he tried to get information to the American people about Iraq, Afghanistan and what the US officials are up to in foreign countries. He has risked his personal safety and freedom to get the information to the American people. He has suffered greatly by acting on his moral guidelines. He is an amazing example of what courage really is.
He has performed an exemplary service to his fellow citizens and to all the people of the world. His actions - to release information - have changed the course of history. Hopefully, his actions will one day wake the American people up to the point that they will stop their government from it's hideous and evil wars of aggression and mass destruction of civilian populations around the world. This is a very long term and very persistent problem.
Bradley Manning's actions have had a positive effect in many countries around the world, but especially in Egypt and Tunisia, where citizens have non-violently overthrown their corrupt governments.
The photo above is a picture of a recent rally for Bradley Manning in Germany. His actions will have a sustained impact on many countries, and have inspired some US officials to be more honest.
