Postcards to elected officials #2

There are reports that 751 bombs were dropped in Afghanistan in September 2017, and that this was the highest number dropped in seven years. The US military has been bombing and shooting up Afghanistan since October 2001. That is 16 years of bombing and fighting. The Taliban are still there, and they are regaining power. The bombs and fighting are mainly hurting civilians. These people in Afghanistan did nothing to hurt the USA, so this is a war of aggression that has gone on for 16 years.

Meanwhile, about 90% of the world’s heroin is from Afghanistan. Very little of that makes it way to the USA - our heroin seems to be coming via Mexico from places further south, possibly with criminal gangs from China involved. But the heroin coming from Afghanistan does keep the price of heroin down around the world, and therefore in the USA. It is rather cheap. And that inspires drug runners to cut the heroin with even cheaper substances to increase their profits. That results in fentanyl-laced heroin which is causing a lot of deaths in the USA. You have probably heard of this crisis and the record number of people dying here in the USA. I think this whole war of aggression on Afghanistan is not only extremely evil and cruel, it is massively stupid and a total waste of our money and resources.
