10/11/11 RALLY FOR THE FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHT TO ASSEMBLE
This is a historic and epic time in American History. It doesn't matter what your political views or opinions are, anyone who respects our Constitution is asked to stand up now to demand government uphold the First Amendment right to assemble. It is precisely what protects our democracy. 4-7 PM Pack Square Rally to Protect the First Amendment Right to Assemble, Tuesday, October 11, 2011.  This is promoted by Occupy Wall Street Asheville.

10/12/11 ASHEVILLE GREEN DRINKS
Tracy Kunkler, an Asheville-based non-profit consultant, was at the Occupy Wall Street site in lower Manhattan from Friday, Sept. 30th to Monday, Oct. 3rd. She will share her first-hand impressions &
experience, including • The grassroots democratic process by which the camp there operates • Her perceptions of why people are there & the articulation of goals & strategy • What happened those three days, including her experience peacefully marching on the Brooklyn Bridge and NOT getting arrested • Why this movement is important, what this moment in history means, & how everyone in Asheville might interact with the movement, even if it seems challenging to do so.  Program starts at 5:30 PM and this is held at the Posana Cafe at 1 Biltmore Avenue, Asheville.

10/14/11 MOVIE NIGHT AT U.U. CHURCH IN ASHEVILLE
This month’s movie will be “Gasland” which is about fracking in the USA.  A representative from NC Clean Water will share NC legislation updates and NC actions.  Time is 7 PM, and U.U. Church is located at Edwin & Charlotte Street.  Donations accepted.

10/16/11 ETHICAL SOCIETY OF ASHEVILLE
“From Fundamentalist to Humanist in 5 Ordinary Words” will be presented by Terra Maney Weaver at the Sunday, October 16th meeting of the Ethical Society of Asheville, 2:00-3:30 PM, held at the YMI Cultural Center, 39 South Market Street in the Drug Store section of the YMI building.   Weaver is co-founder of Zeal to Heal, Inc., an Asheville-based company specializing in community-building through media production, curriculum development, consulting, and special events.  She speaks about her personal journey of spiritual awakening in a way that informs and inspires our collective journey. She conjectures that despite individual differences, most people access personal growth through the shared doors of curiosity, courage, creativity, and compassion but these are not among the five ordinary words.  The path leading to new paradigms of philanthropy and human connection may be “the road less traveled,” but experiencing and sharing the journey benefit us immensely--individually and collectively.  There will be a discussion period following the presentation.  Following the meeting, there will be time for informal conversation.  All are welcome!

The next WNC PSR monthly meeting will be 10/21/11 at the home of Steve and Beth Gilman. Brown Bag lunch at noon with meeting from 12:30 to 2 PM.  Directions to the Gilman's home:  ***Take Highway 70 - Tunnel Road east from downtown Asheville. (From Interstate 240 going east, take Exit 7 and turn left at end of ramp.) Go several miles and see VA Hospital on left. Just before Blue Ridge Parkway overpass, turn right at stoplight onto Pleasant Ridge Road. Take 2nd right turn onto Wagon Road. Then turn left onto Birchwood to #18 on left.  ***From Interstate 40, take Exit 55, turning toward Highway 70. At stoplight turn left. Just after passing under Blue Ridge Parkway overpass, turn left at stoplight onto Pleasant Ridge Road. Take 2nd right turn onto Wagon Road. Then turn left onto Birchwood, and follow to #18 on left.
