War is terrorism

“If a new and deadly disease were to appear, not only would you look for a cure, you would research what causes it. Once the cause was identified you'd be able to advise people how to avoid it, and no one would accuse you of making excuses for a disease.

Yet today, we know the causes of terrorism. They are directly traceable to previous conflicts and the ruined nations they left in their wake. Ultimately, it matters little whether a war was legal, or whether munitions were delivered by conventional means by a man in a regulation costume. The effect of war is to terrorize and brutalize, and to do so with such overwhelming force that it can't be met by equal means and tactics. That's not an apology for terrorism, it's an accurate observation.

Today's victim of war is tomorrow's terrorist.”
