Brother in Arms

These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
And your home is the low lands
And always will be

Someday you’ll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you’ll no longer need to be
Brothers in arms

Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I’ve witnessed your suffering
As the battle raged higher

And though they did hurt ye
In the fear and alarm
We will not desert thee
My brothers in arms

There are many different worlds
So many different suns
We have just this one world
But we live in different ones

It’s written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We are fools to make war
On our brothers in arms

Adapted from Mark Knopfler’s “Brothers in Arms” (Dire Straits)
