Monument to shoe thrower

This monument was built in Iraq in the city of Tikrit at an orphanage. A sculptor by the name of Laith al-Amiri built this sculpture with the help of the kids at the orphanage.

Unfortunately, someone decided that the statue had to come down because the orphanage was government property and should not be used for something with a political bias. It went up on Thursday and was taken down on Saturday. I am really sorry to see it come down, but I hope the orphans got something out of building a monument to truth and speaking truth to power.

Events in the area for peace and social justice issues is listed on the WNC Peace Coalition blog.
