WNCA Offers Free Leadership Workshop

For most of us, activism consists of lobbying officials from "outside" the decision making process, but you can help change the future by getting involved in decision making on the inside.

"Taking Passion and Activism to the Next Level in Local Communities," organized by the Western North Carolina Alliance and North Carolina Conservation Network, will provide an overview of opportunities to make positive change in your community through service on boards and commissions and, perhaps one day, seeking elected office.
We'll hear from Asheville City Councilman Mark Hunt, Councilman Gordon Smith, and Buncombe County Commissioner Holly Jones about their transition from citizens and activists to policy-makers and the opportunities they've had to make a difference in their positions.  Julie Mayfield, executive director of WNCA, will facilitate the workshop.

WORKSHOP DETAILS
"Leadership Development: Taking Passion and Activism to the Next Level in Local Communities"
WHEN: April 5, 10 AM – 12 PM. Check in begins at 10 a.m., with coffee and light refreshments. The program will begin at 10:30 am.
WHERE: Center for Graduate Studies - Lenoir Rhyne University, 36 Montford Ave., Asheville
REGISTER: The event is free, but pre-registration is required, go here: http://action.ncconservationnetwork.org/site/Calendar?id=100802&view=Detail
