More on the protests at TD Bank

Photo from this blog.

From Sierra Hollister, another person arrested at TD Bank last week:

This is the statement that I read inside of the bank:
I am here today to ask Toronto Dominion Bank (TD Bank) to divest from all investments and support for the Keystone XL Pipeline Project. At this point in time, TD Bank is responsible for the largest corporate loans for the Keystone project and in 2012, TD Bank was one of the largest institutional shareholders in Transcanada Corporation, the oil company responsible for the pipeline.

In addition to requesting that you cease all support and investment in the Keystone XL Pipeline, I also want to put you on notice that I will work to  notify your banking customers as well as the local community that by banking with you they are supporting the most egregious and destructive development of fossil fuels to date. In addition to posing a significant threat to the climate, the tar sands are destroying local communities, trashing the environment for all species and threatening the water supply, from Alberta to Port Arthur, Texas.

I can’t help but ask, at what point is the cost to life too great for TD Bank and their desire to make profit? How many lives are you willing to sacrifice for your returns?
